Florence, which means “City of Flowers” is appropriately named for many reasons. It is a city of rarified architecture, art, opera, food, wine, and an unparalleled stop on the way to understanding the ironic cycles of our western civilization. There are still wild boars running free in the surrounding Tuscan countryside amidst the blue skies of sunny Italy. This great Italian treasure of a city features an unforgettable ode to gold, massive inlaid marble church facades, and terra cotta tile roofs tempered by common ochre-colored buildings.
